I agree with the timing issue. I do not believe that the valve lash was changed (except for the difference of new gasket spacing). The chain was removed and reassembled and I believe that the timing jumped a tooth or more; even though Mike feels that the timing is still correct. This mistake is easy to do. A garage that worked on my car put the timing belt in place, but off a tooth and the car still ran, but not as good as before. I discovered the mistake after driving it for a year! Even if the timing marks were correct with a loose chain condition, the chain tension device can alter the relation of the timing marks when tightening the chain.
